Joan Monin, PhD

Affiliation: Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Yale School of Public Health

Dr. Monin is an internationally recognized leader and expert in the field of aging and the mental and physical health of caregiving for older adults. Her research takes an interpersonal and multimethod approach to understand the emotional lives of families, with the goal of developing multifactorial interventions to enhance quality of life. Her basic and translational work on emotional and relational processes in caregiving has transformed how interventions are being developed. She is a pioneer in dyadic research design and methods and developing interventions for close relationships to thrive in the early through late stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).  She works with communities (e.g., LiveWell Institute; Southington, CT) the state (CT DPH ADRD Coalition) and national policy makers (e.g., AARP; National Alliance for Caregiving) on family-oriented and dementia positive approaches.
